History of SafeHome Development
An early version of SafeHome was developed as part of a large research project into housing and health in 2003. The Housing and Neighbourhoods and Health Study (HANAH) was carried out by researchers from the University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM) and Cardiff University with help from officers of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPT), and with funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) . The original version was long and very detailed and was designed to be carried out by trained professional staff from local authorities. A need was identified to produce a version which could be used by people anywhere in the UK or world. The current version of SafeHome was developed by injury prevention researchers from Swansea and Cardiff universities and expert advisors from several charities and organisations, including, the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT), Child Safe Wales (CSW), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the National Community Fire Safety Centre (FireKills). SafeHome is maintained by the Collaboration for Accident Prevention and Injury Control (CAPIC). |
